Independence Day Celebrations Kicks Off With Desi Sports Night

Pakistan Association Dubai organized Desi Sports Night on 03rd August as part of Pakistan’s 71st Independence Day celebrations in PAD Sports Arena. The event was organized to promote the games which are being played in the streets of Pakistan. A large number of families and community from all age groups participated in the event. The traditional Pakistani games like Rasa Kashi, Pitho Garam, Wanji, Ludo, Carrom, Bori Race and three leg race were played at the Desi Sports Night.

One of the participants of the Desi Sports Night, Haroon Rasheed said: “It’s a great initiative taken by the PAD Sports Committee to organize this event; I am feeling as if I am in Pakistan”. Adnan Iqbal another participant said that we came first time in PAD, it’s a great feeling to be part of PAD event and in future I will not miss any of the events.

Director Sports of Pakistan Association Dubai Zahid Hassan welcome the audience, participants and guests of the Desi Sports Night and said that “This event was organized to strengthen the bond between PAD and the Pakistani community based in UAE. The main objective of this event is to introduce the Pakistani culture to the youngsters of Pakistan which are grown up in United Arab Emirates. And the people who have played these games before can also recall their childhood memories”.

Khawaja Atif Riaz Sikka, Director Sales and Marketing- Brighto Paints was the was the Chief Guest of the event, Mr. Sikka congratulated the management of Pakistan Association Dubai for successfully organizing the Desi Sports Night and promoting Pakistani cultural sports within overseas community.

Mr. Salman Mohamed Abdulrahman Hasan Al Marzouqi, Engineering Manager Etisalat, UAE national was the special guest of the evening. He witnessed and appreciated the great zeal and enthusiasm of Pakistani community towards its cultural sports. He further added that all kind of sports are good for health and sports activities will keep you fit in later part of your life.

President of PAD, Dr. Faisal Ikram thanked the honorable guests. PAD sports committee shall organize such events more regularly for the community because this kind of events are helpful to bring the community to their 2nd home in UAE and helpful to create soft image of Pakistani community within UAE, Dr. Faisel added. He also briefed about the upcoming events of PAD such as “Meri Pehchan Pakistan” on 10th August and “Launch of Junior Brick” on 14th August.

In the end, Sohail Ashraf, Acting General Secretary of PAD and Zahid Hassan, Director Sports PAD distributed the prizes and medals among the winning participants.
