Quest for Success

You must have read hundred of pages of literature explaining “How to be successful in your Business/Profession/ Job” and “GET RICH” also must have listened to hours of lectures of renowned Management Consultants explaining to you as how to succeed in your Business and ultimately “GET RICH”.

I have done it and I am sure if you are in any business and profession you would have done it. All these efforts are appreciable and have their value as they are based of years of experiences and tons of research, but sometime a very simple episode or a very small story teaches you what you have not learned in your whole life.

I have a hobby to read anything and everything which I think can show me a new window into my old thinking that sometimes simply proves to be futile and wastage of time as in modern world most of the literature is produced with the intention to reap high monetary results instead of giving the real solution to the problem.

Here let me tell you that success to me is not is not confined to making more money but making money is only one aspect of the entire scheme. Success is the COMBO of satisfaction, happiness, peace and lot more along with money.

A very famous writer “Napoleon Hill” wrote a book “Think and Grow Rich” and the book proved to be very successful as writer gave the right attitudes to think in the way that leads to monetary successes. I also bought and read the book and was thoroughly impressed (though could never develop the right attitude to get rich).

Over the years he realized that this book is not enough and does not address the real problem. He realized that the success is neither complete nor enough without one very important factor “PEACE OF MIND”. So, after couple of years or few decades he wrote his other book titled “Grow Rich with Peace of Mind” and in that book he accepts short coming of his previous book. I have read both these books and equally liked them but could never achieve its objectives of either getting rich or having the peace of mind rather I sometimes lost both in following each other. But despite my failure which I fully attribute to myself and myself alone my quest of finding the solution of being successful (and not Rich) has not yet diminished.

To quench my thirst I was looking for various ways of being successful in Business when I came across a very short and simple story which has given a new dimension to the “Success” which is doing the work you like and do it better than normal, which will not only bring you success but give you satisfaction, enjoyment and ultimate “Respect and Peace” which is the ultimate purpose of achieving “Success”.

Here is that story which will give you a new dimension of “Success”.

A Million Dollar Lesson
by Petey Parker

A cab driver taught me a million-dollar lesson in customer satisfaction and expectation. Motivational speakers charge thousands of dollars to impart his kind of training to corporate executives and staff. It cost me a $12 taxi ride.

I had flown into Dallas for the sole purpose of calling on a client. Time was of the essence and my plan included a quick turnaround trip from and back to the airport. A spotless cab pulled up.

The driver rushed to open the passenger door for me and made sure I was comfortably seated before he closed the door. As he got in the driver’s seat, he mentioned that the neatly folded Wall Street Journal next to me for my use. He then showed me several tapes and asked me what type of music I would enjoy.

Well! I looked around for a “Candid Camera!” Wouldn’t you? I could not believe the service I was receiving! I took the opportunity to say, “Obviously you take great pride in your work. You must have a story to tell.”

“You bet,” he replied, “I used to be in Corporate America. But I got tired of thinking my best would never be good enough. I decided to find my niche in life where I could feel proud of being the best I could be.

I knew I would never be a rocket scientist, but I love driving cars, being of service and feeling like I have done a full day’s work and done it well. I evaluate my personal assets and… wham! I became a cab driver.

One thing I know for sure, to be good in my business I could simply just meet the expectations of my passengers.

But, to be GREAT in my business, I have to EXCEED the customer’s expectations! I like both the sound and the return of being ‘great’ better than just getting by on ‘average’”.

Did I tip him big time? You bet! Corporate America’s loss is the traveling folk’s friend!
