Breast cancer is the most common type of malignancy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with more than 65% of women diagnosed at an advanced stage. Routine clinical screening has aided in the early detection of breast cancer. However, more than 71% of breast tumors are self-detected.
In order to create awareness among the female population living in Dubai, Medical Wing of Pakistan Association Dubai held on 1 October 2019 an awareness programme to educate around 200 young and middle age females to self diagnose early signs and symptoms Of breast cancer.
The main idea was to prevent this life threatening medical condition at an early stage. The programme also underlined the importance of regular screening of high risk patients to prevent progression of female breast cancer to incurable stage.
Among the speakers, Dr Nighat Aftab from Latiffa Hospital (President of Medical Wing) highlighted many important aspects of breast cancer and its prevention. Ms Sadaf Ather gave insight from the Islamic point of view, as how to remain calm and content in this life threatening disease by getting close to the creator (Allah SWT) for more courage and strength to fight the situation.
