For two thirds of our lives, we live with the false belief that if we have a job with a hefty paycheck, a comfortable house (with a mortgage), eat salads for our meals, and walk briskly for thirty minutes on a treadmill in the bedroom, we are living a healthy life. If this is the way you think, believe me you are in for a very unpleasant surprise after the age of fifty or fifty-five years, when (God forbid) you will have:
• High blood pressure • High cholesterol • Mild or severe arthritis • Depression • Diabetes
Unless you learn to live with an attitude of:
• Taking things easy • Relaxing both physically and mentally whenever you get the chance • Learning to accept your limitations • Giving up when a task is beyond your capability • Not comparing yourself with anyone or copying anyone, as we all are different in our looks, intelligence, strengths, and weaknesses • Taking time for yourself • Developing a hobby that makes you happy, like playing a sport, listening to music, writing poetry, playing cards, reading, writing, meditating, praying, and so on. • Sitting still for some time during the day, trying to empty your mind as much as possible • Being patient in times of adversity and grateful in good times • Believing in and waiting for miracles. It sounds a bit incomprehensible in this age of logic and scientific thinking, but I can assure you that miracles do happen, and I have experienced them more than once • Not enjoying seeing someone down on his or her luck, because very soon you may the one providing the same pleasure to others • Remembering that time is one phenomenon that changes regularly and definitely, so be sure that bad times will pass eventually just as the good have already passed • Not ever losing hope and always being content and patient
Happy Living….
