Anwar Maqsood and his wife Imrana share the stage in Pakistan Auditorium
The Pakistani community gathered at the Pakistan Association in Dubai on Friday evening to welcome the Ambassador of Pakistan Centre, Mr. Anwar Maqsood.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.A.E H.E. Moazzam Ahmed Khan and Counsel General Syed Javed Hassan also graced the occasion and contributed towards the larger cause of Pakistan Centre.
The octogenarian artist endorsed the landmark project last year and gave it a glittering boost encouraging people to own bricks for the Centre.
Pakistan Centre once completed will be the world’s largest community centre for overseas Pakistanis. The Dh12million project is divided into 12,000 bricks whilst each brick costs Dh1000.
The event was in line with the theme of own a brick wherein every person gets an opportunity to engrave their names in the community cause.
“The hallmark of this project is the not-for-profit healthcare facility which will be open to all nationalities and will be a pride for the community” said Dr Faisel Ikram, President of PAD.
“I also thank the Government of U.A.E to endorse this project as an initiative of the Year of Giving 2017” added Dr Ikram.
The President also congratulated all the new brick owners who had joined through this event and welcomed them into the PAD family.
Anwar Maqsood enthralled the audience with his tongue in cheek comedy shedding light on how this project will be written down in history in golden words.
“I feel humbled to be declared as an ambassador and want each and every individual of the community to participate in the noble cause” said Maqsood while doing his satire and comedy.
He also added that we should thank the Government of U.A.E for providing a healthy environment and a platform to conduct such conducive community activities.
“I pray that this project be completed soon and upon my next visit I wish to see it inaugurated” said Maqsood.
The artist of multiple facets was joined on stage by his wife Imrana Maqsood who read few memorable transcripts from her recently launched book Uljhay suljhay Anwar”.
The book was also made available to the audience with his autograph.
The audience at Pakistan Auditorium gave a standing ovation to the legendary scriptwriter who despite his ill health travelled just for the cause of Pakistan Centre.
Pakistan Centre which includes Pakistan Medical Centre, a health and fitness centre, a restaurant, ladies and gents’ mosque, seminar rooms and offices was launched on August 14 last year.
“We are lucky to have such a phenomenal artist become a part of our cause. We also thank the Community Development Authority who have throughout helped us in our every endeavor” said Tahir Zaidi, General Secretary of Pakistan Association Dubai.
Last year, Anwar Maqsood joined the cause of Pakistan Centre and pledged to donate his paintings for the cause of Pakistan Centre.
