Pakistani community kicks-off Shukran! campaign with Dubai Municipality

Under the initiative ‘Our City, Our Cleaners’, Pakistan Youth Forum (PYF) – the youth entity of Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) – commenced their Shukran! campaign by thanking and appreciating those who keep the city clean and in pristine condition.

Held on Thursday, 30 June in Dubai Municipality’s Warsan labour accommodation, over 50 volunteers, participants, and students gave gifts to over 500 workers. With ‘thank you’ boards placed in 11 different languages across the camp, each worker was provided with individual bags, in which food, personal care, and hygiene items were placed along with Iftar meals.

Continuing the campaign on Friday, 1st July, the PYF team took the gifts to the cleaners on the streets and thanked them for the wonderful work they do.

“We really would like to thank the Pakistani community and their young members for this. It is very good and special for the workers here as it makes them feel a vital part of the society”, said Mr Ameen, the camp manager at Warsan.

The initiative was supported by AISEC, IFFCO, and SCOPH. Umrah packages for 3 individuals were provided by Pakistan Association Dubai.

“It is very good to see various community members, sponsors, and supporters coming forward to contribute in their own ways for such a great cause”, said Rizwan Fancy, member of welfare team of PAD.

“Shukran! has been designed to thank the various segments of the community for doing the work which is generally not recognised or appreciated. Under this initiative, we will thank other segments of the community as well – such as taxi and bus drivers, hospital staff, etc.”, said Dr Jameela Abdul Haq – founder and chairperson of Pakistan Youth Forum.
