Health Awareness Camp, “Your Health is Community’s Health”

In the blessed Holy month of Ramadan, Medical wing of Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) organized a Health Awareness Camp on Friday, 09th June 2017 at the SECURITAS Labour Camp Muhaisna, Dubai.  It is part of the “Year of Giving” and initiative by Community Development Authority, Government of Dubai called “Honor Labor” and social responsibility which creates health awareness and motivates blue collar workers to adopt healthy habits. The tagline of the activity was “Your Health is Community’s Health”.  More than 600 labourers were screened during the health camp for basic health checks like blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and BMI. It also included dental, orthopedic, dermatology and eye checks.  Health Awareness Lectures on diabetes, hypertension, hand hygiene, smoking and oral hygiene were given by health professionals and free consultation provided by the doctors.

Dr. Nasir Khan   Commercial Counsellor  and Mrs. Saulat Saqib  Community Welfare Attaché from the Pakistan Consulate were the guests of the occasion, they appreciated  the Medical wing of Pakistan Association, for organizing health awareness camp in this Holy month of Ramadan. They also praised the initiatives taken by Pakistan Association Dubai towards community welfare. Dr. Nighat Aftab (President of Medical Wing) during the tour of activity introduced various participating hospital and explained how laborers were screens for basic health checks. Official form the community development Authority also visited the Health Camp.

Interactive sessions and lectures were arranged by health professionals on musculoskeletal problems, stress at work, anxiety and depression, personal hygiene, hand wash, oral hygiene and healthy habits during the holy month of Ramadan. The labourers actively participated in these sessions and found them very helpful in dealing with daily matters at work and accommodation. The camp management appreciated the efforts of the Medical wing of Pakistan Association Dubai.

Lots of labourers will not know if they are hypertensive or diabetic unless screened and will require constant follow up, said Dr.Aamerah Shah, a primary care physician at American hospital and General secretary of Medical Wing.

Dr.Jodath Askari and his team from Ras AlKhaimah College of Dentistry screened patients for dental problems and referred for free dental treatment to their hospital. They also demonstrated proper brushing techniques to the labourers.

Eye screening and reading glasses were prescribed by Supervision team. Dr. Ghazanfar Chaudhry, a urologist from Mediclinic City hospital provided consultations on Mens health which remains an important issue for labourers at these camps.

Gifts hampers from IFFCO were later distributed among the labourers.

The American Hospital, The City Hospital, City Centre Clinic , Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Super Vision Optical , Ras AL Khaimah Dental College and American wellness centre were partner Hospitals/clinics of the activity.
